Virtuosic axe slinger Marnie Stern let her fingers do the walking on stage at the El Rey in Los Angeles over the weekend. Backed by fellow guitarist Mark Shippy and Parts and Labor skinsman Jim Sykes, who beat out rhythms in multiple time signatures like an octopus, she tapped up and down her guitar while belting through numbers from her new album, This Is It And I Am It And... There's a risk of the dust cloud the three create overwhelming the songs at times, but their obvious talent as musicians lassoed any stray notes back into the herd and kept the stampede charging home toward the hacienda.
