Samuel L. Jackson and the rest of Soul Men's musically-gifted cast talk about Bernie Mac's legacy and what it means to be cool

    Interviews: Cast of Soul Men

Soul Men is more than just a hilarious buddy comedy. It's a poignant swan song for one of comedy's brightest stars—Bernie Mac. It's also the first and only time Mac and Samuel L. Jackson would star in a film together, making Soul Men a historic cinematic event. The film follows The Real Deal's two estranged backup singers—Floyd (Mac) and Louis (Jackson)—as they reunite for one last raucous road trip and concert to honor the memory of their recently deceased front man, Marcus Hooks (John Legend). Everyone involved knew that there was something special about the movie.

"Watching Bernie, I always got the feeling that he was giving us every ounce of effort that he had," says producer David Friendly. That's instantly evident from the moment the film starts. Mac is nothing short of fantastic as Floyd. He'll make you laugh, cry, and laud his genius.

ARTISTdirect.com got to sit down with stars Samuel L. Jackson, Sharon Leal, Adam Herschman, and Affion Crockett to discuss Soul Men, Bernie Mac's legacy and what it means to be cool.
