Antonio Banderas Is Salvador Dali
Antonio Banderas will portray surrealist Spanish artist Salvador Dali in Dali, a biopic directed by British-born helmer Simon West.Media 8 will produce the film alongside West and his production shingle, which has been developing the film since 2003, when West optioned the script from writer Jeremy Walters. The film will include an ambitiously ground-breaking blend of music and CGI in an attempt to capture the color and visual aesthetic embodied by Dali and his paintings. The storyline will follow Dali's life and how his unusual work, including his signature melting clocks, was celebrated in America before he succumbed to scandal and misfortune. It will also focus on Dali's lifelong, tempestuous relationship with his wife, Gala. Shooting is scheduled to start in early 2009 in Spain and England.
There are two other biopics based on Dali in the works. Al Pacino is attached to play the painter in Dali & I: The Surreal Story, while Robert Pattinson of Twilight will star as Dali in Little Ashes, which explores the life and loves of a young Dali.
