Iron & Wine: bio
Iron & Wine You could pick any one of Iron & Wine's intimate gems to put on a mixtape. But we wanted to know what he'd put on his mixtape for us. His choices are surprising and quite eclectic. Check out the exclusive mixtape Samuel Beam (aka Iron & Wine) made for ARTISTdirect!

1) "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" - Nina Simone
This is probably the most beautiful song I've ever heard.

2) "Laughing" - Pere Ubu
What would you do if you saw the devil coming?

3) "Rivers of Babylon" - Melodians
If you like these guys, you should also check out The Pioneers and The Tennors .

4) "Tulumba" - Ali Farka Toure
Any one of his recordings is a humbling experience for guitar players.

5) "Sailin' On" - Bad Brains
Nostalgia for practically everyone who had a skateboard in the eighties.

6) "Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya Ya" - Dr. John
I don't care what anyone says, Dr. John is bad (as in bad ass).

7) "Bashment Boogie" - Roots Manuva
I haven't heard the new record, but I'm really looking forward to it.

8) "Indian Love Song" - Dirty Three
Amazing.

9) "You Left the Water Running" - Otis Redding
I think he is still the best vocalist ever.

10) "I Dream a Highway" - Gillian Welch
Mesmerizing.

His latest EP, Woman King is his best work to date. If you're not familiar with him yet, start there. Don't take our word for it, listen to the title track
